Why am I not surprised?

• I got budget cut on my birthday.
• I was rejected because I am not a Californian.
  
• I was offered a job, but then the offer was retracted.
• I got to the last round of the application process right before they closed the project.
• I am interviewing people to take over my job because grant money is for them and not for me.
• Someone says, "Let's chat at noon, lunchtime." Is it so bad that I assume lunchtime in Seattle rather than lunchtime in Shanghai?
